SCOPE OF THE CONFERENCE
The Third Annual International Conference of “Structural Analysis of Supramolecular Assemblies by Hybrid Methods,” will bring together specialists in diverse branches of structural biology. Drawing primarily from the fields of x-ray crystallography, electron cryomicroscopy, and computational biology, the agenda will also extend into biophysical methods, proteomics and cell biology.
This Workshop follows two successful meetings on the same theme in March 2004 and April 1998. Its goal is to survey the state of the art in this exciting area of research both by illustrating the power of hybrid methods to tackle challenging mega-systems and also by identifying limitations and gaps in hybrid methods as currently practiced.
The Workshop is based on the emerging concepts that (1) macromolecular assemblies and machines represent the pivotal level in the structural hierarchy for most fundamental processes; and (2) these entities may be most effectively studied by appropriate combinations of experimental methods, i.e. “hybrid approaches”.
The meeting format will be seven sessions with five to six speakers each session. In addition to oral presentations, a large poster session is planned. Approximately 1/3 of the presentations will be selected from submitted abstracts.
SESSION TOPICS
- Hybrid Approaches to Macromolecular Filaments
- Hybrid Approaches to Membrane Complexes
- Computational Approaches to Hybrid Analysis
- Hybrid Approaches to Dynamic Assemblies
- Hybrid Approaches to Dynamics Macromolecular Assemblies and Machines
- Hybrid Approaches to Macromolecular Machines
- Cellular Proteomics
LANGUAGE
The language of the conference will be English.
OUTREACH
The workshop is planning to publish a Special Issue in the Journal of Structural Biology, based on contributions from speakers at the Symposium. This Special Issue will be Guest-edited by Dorit Hanein and John Tainer and will contain both original papers and reviews. Submission deadline will be 2 months after the Symposium, and the review and publication processes will be fast-tracked in order to bring out in timely fashion this survey of an important field at a critical point in its
development.
